1.5 Day: Earring/ Pendant Silversmithing workshop plus Ring Silversmithing workshop

13th and 14th September

ERAS Sunday School

Day 1: Full day - In this course you will make a pair of earrings and or a pendant exploring shape, form, texture and finishing techniques to your own individual design using a 4cm x 5cm sterling silver sheet. Copper can also be incorporated as well as sterling silver wire.

The jewellery techniques will include:

· Sawpiercing

· Annealing

· Filing and sanding

· Texturing-  stamping and hammering

· Drilling

· Soldering

· Doming and forming

· Learn how to make earring wires

· Finishing and polishing

Templates (oval, circle, heart and organic shapes) will be available to use in your design. Surface treatments such as texturing with hammers and punches will be demonstrated. The jewellery techniques of metal manipulation, construction using soldering and surface finishing will be the primary focus of this project.

The different punches and hammers available can create different textures on the sterling silver or copper incorporated into the designs to give contrast and variety creating your own Unique style. Alphabet and number stamps will also be available.

The design process will be explained at beginning of the session and your designs will flow on from there so please don’t worry about having a set idea on what you would like to create at the moment. We spend the first hour discussing the design process and what can be achieved in the day. Everyone goes home with a unique finished piece/s.

Day 2: Half day 

Ring  Making Workshop

Making a ring exploring measuring, form, texture and finish.

Formula for measuring metal: - Diametre + metal thickness x 3.142

The jewellery techniques to be taught will include:

· Annealing

· Saw piercing

· Filing

· Texturing-  stamping and hammering

· Doming

· Drilling

· Soldering

· Finishing and polishing

Surface treatments such as texturing with hammers and punches will be demonstrated. The jewellery techniques of metal manipulation, construction using soldering and surface finishing will be the primary focus of these projects.

There will be samples such as a spinner ring and Russian wedding ring to view.

An Apron will be provided to wear during the workshop.

Please wear covered shoes.
